An Ontology for Narratives

Ontology

As a first step towards the introduction of narratives in digital libraries, we developed a conceptualisation of narratives based on notions found in narratology and in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) literature (in particular in the Event Calculus theory), its expression in a general ontology, the CIDOC CRM and its extension CRMinf, and the use of this expression for validating the conceptualisation on a realistic case study: the biography of Dante Alighieri. To support this validation, we developed a semi-automated tool that collects basic knowledge about objects and events from the Wikidata knowledge base and supports the user in building narratives on top of this basic knowledge.

At the following address we report the list and descriptions of the classes and properties of our ontology: http://dlnarratives.eu/ontology
